An add-on is an additional item or service to supplement a reservation, such as bed linen, breakfast, or bike rental. Add-ons can be mandatory and applied automatically to every reservation (for example: tourist tax) or optional (for example: bike rental). Optional add-ons help you upsell services during or after the booking process.

Add-ons are created at the location level, since items and services usually apply to the whole location. You then link them to accommodation types as mandatory or optional, so offerings can vary per accommodation type. For instance, you might include a beach towel with beach cottages but not with other accommodations.

This article focuses on creating new add-ons via the add-ons menu in Content Manager and via the import functionality. Understanding and managing add-on types and linking add-ons to accommodations as mandatory or optional is covered in separate articles.

If you want to create multiple add-ons at once, use the import functionality instead of creating them one by one. Importing saves time, especially when setting up a new holiday park or migrating existing data.

💡Tips

  • Add-ons which apply to all your reservations, for example, reservation fees, should be created at the highest location level.
  • Group your add-ons using the add-on hierarchy to easily and efficiently manage your add-on inventory.

Create an add-on

  1. Navigate to Content Manager and select the Add-ons menu item.
  2. Click Create add-on in the top right corner.
  3. Select the location for which you are creating the add-on.
  4. Select the add-on type (example, cleaning, rentals, linen supply).
  5. Select the parent add-on if you want to nest the add-on below a parent.
  6. Enter the name and code of your add-on.
  7. Enter the Short description and Description of your add-on. These details can be provided later.
  8. Choose if you want to Create representation and link all channels for this add-on.

  10. Click Next.
  11. Choose if you want to add Translations for your Name and Description fields.
  12. Choose if you want to apply the add-on to subject selection in the reservation.
  13. Choose if you want to configure when and where the add-on should be distributed.
  14. Choose if you want to configure marketing groups.
  15. Choose if you want to set a minimum or maximum quantity per reservation.
  16. Choose if you want the customer to pay for the add-on at the location.
  17. Choose if the add-on can be purchased without an accommodation reservation.
  18. Click Finish.

📌Note

If the add-on is paid on arrival, it will not be included in the customer's bill.

Import add-ons

Use a template file to enter your add-on data. You can download this file via the Import functionality in the Batch updates menu item in Content Manager. In the import template file:

  • Each row represents one add-on.
  • Each column represents a data field in Maxxton.
  • The second sheet provides additional information and instructions to complete the template for import.

After uploading the file, the system creates the add-ons.

  1. Navigate to Content Manager, and open the Batch updates menu item.
  2. Click Import on the bottom right.
  3. Click Download import template on the top right.
  4. Select the Add-on creation file.
  5. Click Download.
  6. Enter the add-on data in the template.
  7. Click Import file in the Batch updates menu.
  8. Select the Add-on creation file.
  9. Upload your completed template file.
  10. Click Import. The import modal will perform a test run to validate your template file.
  11. If the test run succeeded, press Import to import the template file.
  12. Click Close.

💡Tip

Run your import file on the acceptance environment before importing it on production.
