VAT (Value-Added Tax) is a tax added to goods and services, usually shown as a percentage. It varies by country and service type.

In Maxxton, VAT is:

  • Configured centrally and linked to ledgers. Ledgers are then linked to resources like accommodations and add-ons.
  • Calculated automatically based on the assigned rate. The VAT appears in financial and booking reports.
  • Flexible, so you can apply different rates to different services (e.g. 9% for soft drinks, 21% for alcohol).

Set up a new VAT

  1. Navigate to Finance Manager, expand the Configuration menu item, and select VAT.
  2. Click on Create VAT and enter the required information:
    1. Name (mandatory) - a clear label for the VAT.
    2. Description (optional) - when to use this VAT.
    3. Ledger (mandatory) - the specific VAT ledger which is linked to this VAT percentage. It does not relate to ledgers configured for resources.
    4. VAT code (mandatory) - The accounting code or identifier used for this VAT.
  3. Click Create VAT.

A VAT has been created. However, it does not yet contain any input which can be used to actually calculate VAT. Therefore, VAT values must be configured.

Set up new VAT values

  1. Click on Add VAT value in the VAT details and enter the required information:
    1. Start date - The first departure date on which the new VAT rate should be applicable.
    2. End date (optional) - The last departure date on which the new VAT rate should be applicable.
    3. VAT value - The percentage of the VAT rate.
  2. Click Add.

The VAT is now fully set up and ready to be linked to ledgers.

As resources are linked to a ledger, resources will inherit the VAT rate from the ledger configuration.
