Set up and link amenities
Amenities are built-in features or services included with an accommodation to enhance a guest’s stay, for example, free Wi-Fi, a swimming pool, or in-room toiletries.
In Maxxton, amenities can be applied to locations, accommodation types, or units. This guide explains how to configure amenities and link them to your accommodations.
Amenity structure
Amenities are organised in a tree structure to keep things scalable and easy to manage:
- Parent category (optional): groups of amenities (e.g. bathroom).
- Category: a more specific grouping (e.g. showers).
- Amenity: the item itself (e.g. walk-in shower).
Amenity types
There are different types of amenities. When creating new amenities, one of these types need to be selected:
-
Simple: a standard label without a value.
Example: TV, balcony -
Number: requires a numeric value.
Example: bedrooms- 2, 3 -
Text: requires a custom string.
Example: nearest airport- Heathrow -
Group: A container that groups other amenities. Linking the group links all amenities within it.
Example: children’s furniture includes child cot, high chair, child bath
Create a (parent) amenity category
- Navigate to Content Manager and expand the Configuration menu item, and select Amenity.
- Click on Manage categories at the top right of the page.
- Click on Create amenity category.
- Select a parent category. If you are creating the highest-level parent category, don’t select a parent.
- Enter the Name, Code, and Priority.
Create a new amenity
- Navigate to Content Manager and expand the Configuration menu item, and select Amenity.
- Click on New amenity.
- Enter the Name, Code, select a Type, and assign it to a Category.
- Add translations and media for multilingual sites and visual support. This step is optional.
Note
Each amenity must belong to a category, and you will need to select a type when creating it. The type defines how the amenity behaves when it is linked to a location, accommodation type or unit.
Link amenities
Once you have set up your amenities, link them to the appropriate locations, accommodation types or units.
- Location level: for amenities which are available for the entire location (e.g. swimmingpool, playground)
- Accommodation type level: for features common to all units (e.g. air conditioning).
- Unit level: for exceptions or specific features (e.g. sea view).
Inheritance
- Linking an amenity at the accommodation type level makes it available to all units under that type,
- Units can override inherited amenities by storing their own values.

- Navigate to Content Manager, and select either location, accommodation type, or unit you wish to configure.
- Open the Amenities card.
- Click on Link amenities.
- Search for the amenity.
- Enter the value for number or text types, depending on the amenity type.

Link via batch update

- Navigate to Content Manager, and select the Batch updates menu item.
- Click on New batch update.
- Use filters to view Units or Accommodation types.

Import and link amenities
Use a template file to enter your accommodation type and unit data. You can download this file via the Import functionality in the Batch updates menu item in Content Manager. In the import template file:
- Each row represents one amenity.
- Each column represents a data field in Maxxton.
- The second sheet provides additional information and instructions to complete the template for import.
After uploading, the system creates the amenities.
Use import when working with a large set of amenities.
- Navigate to Content Manager, and open the Batch updates menu item.
- Click Import on the bottom right of the page.
- Click Download import template on the top right.
- Select Create amenity type file and click Download.
- Enter your amenity data in the template file.
- Click Import file on the Batch updates page.
- Select the Accommodation and unit type file.
- Upload the completed template.
- Click Import. The import modal will perform a test run to validate your template file.
- Press Import to import the template file if the test run succeeded.
