Set up and link commissions
Third parties may charge an additional fee for their services. You can charge these fees via Commissions. Commissions can be included in a reservation based on different criteria. In Maxxton, commissions are set up as add-ons. You link them to the right distribution channels.
A key part of this flexibility is how you handle VAT:
- Include VAT in the commission: create a single rule where the VAT is already part of the commission rate.
- Create a separate VAT add-on: build a main commission rule and link a second add-on for VAT. This is useful if you need VAT shown as a separate line item on the agent’s bill.
Create a commission
- Navigate to the Channel Manager, expand Configuration and select Commissions.
- Click Create new commission/VAT.
- Select Location in the pop-up displayed.
- Select the type of cost you want to create:
- Commission: A standard commission rule where VAT is included. These rules are marked with the VAT included tag.
- VAT over commission: A separate add-on that only calculates VAT on the commission. These rules do not carry the VAT included tag.
- Complete the fields below:
- Name: enter a clear name, for example, 15% Agent Commission or Standard Partner Fee.
- Code
- Short description: optional
- Toggles:
- Create representation and link all channels for this commission add-on: enable this toggle if you want to create a default representation with all channels for this new commission add-on.
- Create default rentability for this add-on: enable this toggle if you want this add-on to be bookable for all bookings with a stay date from today onwards.
- Click on Create.
Configure rates
Select the commission created above in the Commissions menu item.
Select the Rates card on the commission details page to set the commission value:
- Value type: choose between a percentage (relative rate) or a fixed amount (flat rate).
- Price: Enter the value. For deductions, use a negative number (e.g. -15 for 15% or -25 for €25).
- Applicable on: select what the percentage is based on, such as the accommodation total or full reservation total.
- Date conditions: Define an active date range for each rate.
- Applicable resources: Limit the rule to specific accommodation types, add-ons, or offers if needed.
Apply rentability rules
Select the Rentability rules card to control when the commission applies. You can set conditions such as:
- Stay date from/to: only apply to bookings with a stay period in this range.
- Book date from/to: only apply if the reservation was booked within this range.
Link distribution channels
Select the Linked distribution channels card. A commission rule becomes active only after it is linked to a sales channel.
- Click the Link distribution channel.
- Select the following, respectively, in the pop-up:
- Select distribution channels: choose the distribution channels.
- Specify conditions: select all/specific Locations, Accommodation types and Accommodation kinds.
- Validity: select the arrival, reservation, and departure date criteria.
The card displays an overview of all channels currently linked to this rule.
Tip
- Using inheritance, configure your commission on your highest parent location. This way, the commission can be charged for all locations and accommodations.
- To keep an overview, name your commissions after the DC you have linked it to and preferably link it to 1 DC.
Link VAT
Select the Linked VAT card if you created a separate VAT over commission add-on.
Click on the Link VAT for linking the VAT add-on to the main commission rule. This ensures VAT is calculated correctly and appears as a separate line on the agent’s bill.
Note
Do not link the VAT over commission add-on directly to accommodation types. Always link it only from the main commission rule.
Edit a commission
Navigate to the Channel Manager, expand Configuration and select Commissions. To edit a commission, select it from the list to open its detail page.
To adjust a link, go to the Linked distribution channels card on the detail page and click the pencil icon next to the link you want to edit.
Warning
When editing a link, be cautious as changes may affect existing reservations.
Delete a commission
- Navigate to the Channel Manager, expand Configuration and select Commissions. The overview of all your commissions is displayed here.
- Open the detail page of the commission you want like to delete.
- Click on the Settings action icon. The Advanced settings pop-up is displayed.
- Scroll to the bottom of the pop-up and click on Remove.
- A validation on the removal will be given.
Note
Always proceed with caution when removing resources from Maxxton, as you may be affecting existing reservations.
