Reservation categories signify to which category the reservation belongs. It categorises different types of reservations, including normal, owner, and owner-guest reservations. Reservation categories are used not only for categorisation but also as conditions in the reservation flow, helping to determine whether a resource needs to be assigned.

Furthermore, you can specify different rates or resource linking based on reservation categories. For example, you might need different rates for regular reservations compared to owner reservations, where owners use their own units. Similarly, you may offer separate pricing for group reservations compared to regular ones. Reservation categories make it easier to identify and specify these differences.

Create a reservation category

  1. Navigate to the Channel Manager, expand the Configuration menu item, and select Reservation categories.
  2. Click on Create reservation category at the bottom of the page.
  3. Provide the following details:
    1. Name
    2. Code
    3. Description: this field is optional.
    4. Use for linear contracted reservation: enable this toggle to use the reservation category for linear reservations.
    5. Click Save.
  4. The reservation category is created without additional settings. You can configure these on its detail page:
    1. Translations: for internal system use.
    2. Expiration rules: to keep reservations optional for a set period, after which they expire.
    3. Reservation status excluded: to exclude certain statuses for these reservation types.
    4. Free resources: to include resources at zero price for these reservations (for example, the accommodation cost for reservations in the owners own use category).
  5. Click on the kebab menu on the top-right of the page to access the settings of the reservation category. Review these settings and update if required.

Link reservation categories to distribution channels

Reservation categories can be linked to distribution channels to make sure they are applied correctly to your bookings. You probably don't want any reservations with the owner category created with a touroperator distribution channel.

  1. Navigate to the Channel Manager, select Distribution Channel and select the Distribution Channel to which you would like to link Reservation categories.
  2. Click on the Linked reservation categories card on the DC detail page.
  3. Click on Link new reservation categories and select the appropriate categories.
  4. You have the option to set priority if required.
  5. Click on Finish
  6. You will now see your reservation categories linked to the DC.

Tip

  • Customise reservation categories to reflect common groupings you use or want to distinguish, such as ‘Direct’ for reservations made through your call centre or website, ‘Tour operators’ for reservations via channels like Booking.com or Airbnb, or ‘Owners’ for reservations made by owners for their own use.
  • The priority of reservation categories linked in a DC is reflected in Reservation Manager. It depicts the order in which reservation categories are shown. Set your most used category as 1!

Edit a reservation category

  1. Navigate to Channel Manager, expand the Configuration menu and select Reservation Categories.
  2. Select the reservation category which you wish to edit.
  3. On the details page of the reservation category, you can update the displayed configurations.
  4. To edit the settings, click on the kebab menu on the top right of the page and select Settings and make the required changes.

Delete a reservation category

You cannot delete the reservation categories; they can only be archived.

  • To archive a reservation category, click the kebab menu on the top right of the page and select Archive.
  • To unarchive a reservation category, set the filter to Archived to display all archived categories. Then click the kebab menu in the top-right corner of the page and select Unarchive.

If you want to delete a reservation category definitively, contact Maxxton Support.

Warning

Always proceed with caution when archiving items. It may affect existing reservations.
